Born in 1956, Latėnas graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music in 1975.  He composes symphonic, chamber and vocal music.  He has written special compositions for over 200 stage plays, over 20 films and TV performances and won several international competitions.  In 1995 he was awarded the St Christopher Prize as best composer for his music for another of the Small State Theatre of Vilnius’ productions, Smile Upon us Lord.  In 2000 he received the award of Russian theatre Chayka for his music for the performance directed by Rimas Tuminas Playing Schiller at Sovremennik Theatre. Latėnas is a permanent collaborator and congenial of Tuminas, he often travels together with Tuminas, composing music for his guest director performances abroad. From 2000 to 2005, he was an executive director of the Small Theatre of Vilnius.
